A theft complaint turned into a drug arrest at the South Point Walmart. Just after 3 pm, the store’s loss prevention contacted sheriff’s deputies to report they’d caught a man on video stuffing items in his pockets in the automotive section.
When an officer headed to the store to arrest the man, he informed him that he was homeless and stealing items to sell for money. When the deputy searched the man he discovered two bags of meth. The man admitted to having a drug problem. Police took him into custody and booked him into the Lawrence County Jail.
Later that day, deputies returned to the store after loss prevention officers saw a woman skip scanning multiple items in the self-checkout and leave the store with them. The woman said it was a mistake and that she didn’t notice that the items failed to scan. She offered to pay for the items, but the store refused.
Officers headed back to the store after loss prevention caught a woman switching price tags at the self-checkout and giving herself a big discount on multiple items.
When a deputy searched the suspect’s purse, they found fentanyl, heroin, and pot as well as a straw and syringes. They also discovered credit cards in other people’s names. Police took the woman into custody, impounded the drugs, and disposed of the syringes.
