A concerning scene in the parking lot of Save A Lot turned into a moment of hope in Scioto County’s ongoing battle with addiction.
Just after 3 p.m., concerned witnesses called police to report a young woman nodding off in the front seat of a car parked outside the grocery store on Gallia Street. Fearing a possible overdose, they watched as the woman got out of the car and wandered into the nearby Family Dollar.
An officer responded quickly and located the woman inside the store. But instead of finding someone in active crisis, he found a mother trying to save her daughter.
The young woman was accompanied by her mother, who explained they were shopping for basic supplies before heading straight to a rehab facility. She said her daughter was finally ready to get help, and they were picking up items she would need during her stay.
👏 A Mother’s Love Can Save Lives
In the middle of a drug epidemic that continues to plague Scioto County, this moment stood out. Officers commended the mother for stepping in and taking action before things turned tragic.
Scioto County continues to rank among the highest in the state for opioid-related overdoses, and public spaces like store parking lots have become ground zero for witnessing addiction’s impact.
💡 What To Do If You Suspect Someone Is Overdosing:
- Call 911 immediately.
- Try to keep the person awake and breathing.
- Administer Narcan if available.
- Stay with them until help arrives.
Addiction doesn’t discriminate — but neither does recovery. And thanks to one brave mom, this story might just have a better ending.
