An inmate used a classic excuse to explain away drugs located in her shoe during a shakedown of a cell block. A “shakedown” is when corrections officers conduct a thorough search of inmates and cells for contraband.
Corrections officers at the Lawrence County Jail decided to do a search of the woman’s cell block after receiving complaints of drugs in a cell. When officers brought inmate Kayla Thompson into the property room for a search, they asked her to remove her shoes.
When officers found a folded-up piece of paper in the shoe, they claimed the woman said, “Oh, another charge.”
They said the woman then claimed that the shoes she was wearing did not belong to her because her shoes were a much darker color of orange.
Officers checked the piece of paper and found a powdery substance inside. They impound the substance for testing.
