Scioto County was rocked by heartbreak as two separate fatal accidents involving vehicles plunging into creeks occurred within the same day on the county’s west side.
🚨 First Call – Just After Midnight
At 12:30 a.m., deputies responded to a chilling report: a vehicle had gone off Dry Run Road and into a creek. Rescue teams from the fire department were already on scene and quickly requested the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office after spotting a weapon in the vehicle.
Sadly, Ohio State Highway Patrol soon confirmed the worst—a fatality at the scene. EMS arrived to respectfully take possession of the deceased, and deputies recovered the weapon. The vehicle was later removed from the creek, and officers personally notified the next of kin.
🚨 Second Call – 9:00 p.m.
Tragedy struck again that night in West Portsmouth. A caller reported that a vehicle had crashed into a creek and that it may have been a suicide. A passenger had managed to escape the wreck and was seen wandering the area, visibly distraught.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered another deceased individual in the creek. The Scioto County Coroner was called in, and AEP was also contacted due to nearby powerline hazards. Officers worked swiftly and compassionately, calling in a chaplain service to assist those grieving. The vehicle was towed from the water, and the investigation into the crash continues.
