Just two days after deputies found a man bathing in a mud puddle and campaigning for the sheriff’s badge, they were called out again for another bizarre encounter.
The latest call came after multiple motorists reported a man walking along the roadway while carrying what appeared to be a beer.
Deputies responding to the area eventually found the same man from the earlier incident — the man who had previously argued with a road crew, predicted his own arrest, and later stripped down to bathe in a mud puddle.
This time, deputies located him walking directly down the center of the double-yellow lines.
According to the report, the man appeared increasingly agitated and was talking rapidly about a variety of topics.
A deputy initially attempted to help him reach his destination and even offered him a ride.
The deputy reported that the man did not smell of alcohol, but his statements quickly became alarming.
According to the report, the man began discussing a plan to “get back to the White House and assassinate the President.” He also reportedly made comments about guns and fighting for the country.
Concerned about his behavior, the deputy asked whether he had taken any drugs or stopped taking prescribed medications.
His response?
“Yes. Nicotine.”
Deputies continued trying to persuade him to move out of the roadway for his own safety.
According to the report, several vehicles became trapped behind him because he refused to walk on the shoulder.
The deputy repeatedly instructed him to move to the side of the road, including using the patrol vehicle’s loudspeaker.
He allegedly ignored every instruction and continued walking directly down the center of the roadway.
At that point, deputies decided the situation had become a danger to both the man and passing motorists.
He was arrested for disorderly conduct and transported back to jail.
It Started With a Road Crew
The latest arrest came just two days after deputies first encountered the man during a resurfacing project.
In that incident, he confronted road workers because their trucks were idling and reportedly told deputies he couldn’t breathe because of the exhaust.
Workers told deputies they simply wanted him to leave so they could continue their jobs.
During that conversation, the man reportedly announced that he wanted the sheriff’s badge and suggested that if Donald Trump could become president, he could become sheriff.
A deputy offered him water and ice and pointed him toward a different route home.
Hours later, however, deputies began receiving calls about a man removing his clothes and bathing in a mud puddle near a creek.
When they found him, he reportedly had a bottle containing creek water mixed with berries, peanuts, and other items he had collected while wandering.
He was arrested that day on a disorderly conduct charge.
Now, two days later, deputies say they found themselves dealing with him again — this time while he was walking in traffic and making statements about the White House.
When Strange Behavior Becomes a Public Safety Issue
Law enforcement officers frequently encounter people who may be experiencing substance abuse issues, mental health crises, or medical conditions that affect judgment and behavior.
While unusual behavior by itself is not always a crime, walking in active traffic, refusing lawful commands intended to prevent injury, and creating hazards for motorists can quickly become a public safety issue.
In this case, deputies say the concern was no longer simply what the man was saying — it was the fact that he was saying it while walking down the middle of a roadway and refusing repeated instructions to move out of traffic.
