We received a list of the top Delinquent Property Taxpayers from the Auditor of Scioto County. There are legal remedies up to and including foreclosure and the sale of these properties. To make it easier to follow, we will break it down into lists of 25 Delinquent Property Taxpayers.
Here is the Third Batch of 25. As we move forward, the numbers continue to get bigger. The First Batch of 25 represented over $285,871 in back taxes. You can view that here. The Second Batch of 25 represented over $335,065 in back taxes. you can view that here.
Now, this Third Batch of 25 represents over $993,174 in back taxes.
The total delinquent taxes in our three reports represent over $1,614,110 in unpaid taxes.
NOTE: These three articles account for only half of the 150 top Delinquent Property Taxpayers received from the County Auditor. Land parcels with tax debts number in the thousands. It is estimated that the county is owed between 4 and 6 million dollars in taxes.
Note: If you have any questions concerning this, contact the Scioto County Auditor’s office and not SCDN.

Blame Game
Over the course of releasing these tax debts, many on social media have remarked on the release. Some have declared that property taxes should not be collected because “they already own the property.” Some have stated that the taxpayers are deceased. Others simply say this isn’t newsworthy.
The actual news story here is very simple. Why hasn’t the Auditor’s office not collected these taxes? Some of these have gone unpaid for more than 10 years. Are you happy with that?
Crucial services, including (but not limited to) township fire and EMS, Schools, CPS, Adult Protective Services, and the Scioto County Board of DD rely on these property taxes. The citizens voted on and passed levy items with an expectation that key services would receive the monies.
The Auditor’s office is not just a “bookkeeping service”, it is a collections agency. Every population will have its own debtors that will not pay. In this county, the Auditor’s office is in place to ensure that the money promised to those agencies is actually funded. Do they all just call J.G. Wentworth and say, “It’s my money, and I want it now,” Or, do we collectively hold the elected officials fully and utterly accountable for collecting the money?
