Not sure if there was something in the water over the weekend but Friday and Saturday provided some very strange calls for Portsmouth Police Officers. We’ve got the highlights in 12 easy slides. Suspicious Minds

Friday

  • At 12:45 am, police got a call that someone was breaking into a garage on 6th Street. When an officer arrived, the garage looked secure. Nobody was in the back yard.
  • Just after 9 pm, a caller reported seeing people breaking into a condemned home on Center Street. Police found the door open and attempted to re-secure the property.

Saturday

Police were called to Waller Street just before 9 am for a report of an unsecured residence. The caller said the front and back door have been open all night.  It appeared someone was in the process of moving out.

Police contacted PMHA to secure the front door. There was no one inside the apartment and it appeared vacant.

Under The Influence

Friday

  • Just before 2 am, officers took a driver into custody for refusing to take a sobriety test. The vehicle was impounded.
  • Police were called to 6th Street for a report of a man passed out in a pickup truck. The vehicle was towed.
  • Officers found a man lying on a porch on Murray Street. He was advised to leave the area.
  • Just after 7 pm, police responded to 5th Street for a report of an OD. The man was alert when police arrived and refused treatment.
  • At 10:23 police were called to 7th Street for a report of a possible OD. The woman refused medical treatment.

Saturday

  • Police were called to 5th Street at 1:34 am for a report of individuals using drugs in public. They were gone by the time officers arrived.
  • Just after 3 am, officers responded to a fight at the Subway on Gallia. All parties were heavily intoxicated.
  • Officers were called to First Christian Church on 3rd Street just afternoon. Syringes and other drug paraphernalia were discovered in the bushes behind the church. A 30-gallon trashcan was also missing.
  • At 9:49 pm, officers were called to 17th Street for a report of an OD. The woman refused transport. Police disposed of a syringe.

Help Needed

Friday

  • Just before 7 am, police were called to 11th Street for a report of a woman refusing to leave the property. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, then transported to a mental health facility in Columbus.
  • Just before 1 pm, officers were called to the homeless shelter on 8th for a report of a woman threatening to set her room on fire. She was transported so SOMC for evaluation.

Saturday

Officers were called to 16th Street for a report of an attempted suicide. The woman was transported to SOMC.

Texting Threats

Friday

  • Police were called to Hill View Retirement Center at 10:30 am for a report of a man sending threatening texts to his wife. They discovered he had a warrant out for his arrest. Officers took a report.
  • Police picked the husband up at the rehab facility just after 3 pm.

Stranger Danger

Friday

  • A landlord called officers at 11 am to report that a strange man was hanging around his rental property.
  • The landlord said that two women are rending a home on 23rd Street. A strange man was observed taking photos of the house and going through a trashcan outside.
  • Police told him to call them back if anything like that happens again.

Kids on the Roof

Friday

Police were called to Kinneys Lane to check on the welfare of kids just after 5:15 pm. A passerby reported seeing children on the roof.

Officers spoke to their grandmother. She wasn’t aware they were on the roof and said it wouldn’t happen again.

Custody Questions

Friday

Police were called into the middle of a custody issue just after 5 pm. A woman said she was looking after her nephew while his mother was in a treatment facility. She allowed the boy’s father to have him for a couple of days but the father hadn’t returned the child.

The father claimed that he had joint custody with the boy’s mother. As neither party could provide paperwork to support their claims, officers suggested they head to court to work it out.

Cast the First Stone

Saturday

Just before noon, police were called to High Street on a complaint that a neighbor had spewed gravel all over a camper in the driveway.

Police said the damage appeared minimal and advised it was a civil matter.

Scooter Breakdown

Saturday

Officers came to the aid of a woman on 11th street after her scooter broke down. They took her and her scooter home to Hudson House.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Saturday

Just after 8 pm, officers were called to 8th Street for a report of a man and woman fighting.

Turns out the man already had a warrant. Officers read both parties their rights. They then took the man to SOMC to be treated for a head injury. The jail refused to accept him until he was cleared by a doctor.

They finally got him to the jail around 10 pm.

I Don’t Trust You

Saturday

  • Police were called to a strange case just before 8:30 pm. A Forrest Avenue resident wanted to report harassment by a neighbor. She claimed the neighbor had falsely accused her husband of stalking her.  However, they haven’t had any contact with the woman.
  • The couple claimed the woman had filed false claims with professional organizations and yelled at them from across the street.
  • When officers attempted to make contact with the woman, her son said he didn’t want them to cause her any stress. He said she’d been stalked previously and that all police were corrupt. The son said police in another town had mistreated his mother when someone else stalked her.
  • When the officer pressed the matter, the woman in question came to the door and told the officer she did not trust the police due to police corruption.  The officer spoke to her and requested to see the video she claimed to have of her stalker. She refused and said she’d prefer to get an attorney.

 You Don’t Have To Go Home but You Can’t Stay Here

Police were called to the Party Time Bar just before 11 pm in connection with a report of an elderly woman who refused to leave. Bar patrons got her a cab.
