PPD: Kids Gone Wild Monday

Local kids seemed to be a little bit out of control on Monday. Portsmouth Police started the week checking up on wayward teens and answering cries for help. Dude, Where’s My Wheelchair?

Just after midnight, an SOMC employee flagged down an officer to report that a man had stolen a wheelchair.

Kids In Danger?

Officers were called to Farley Court just after 12:30 am on a report of children living in poor conditions. There was no answer at the apartment where the kids lived. The officer advised the caller to contact CPS

Cry For Help

  • At 12:46 am, police received a report that a 3rd Street woman had threatened to kill herself. The woman had left the home before officers arrived. They told the family to call them if she came home. Officers checked the area for the woman.
  • Just after 1:30, police received another report of a man talking about suicide on the Scioto Trail. He was taken to the hospital.

Was That A Gunshot?

Just before 3 am, police got a call for a suspected gunshot on Mound Street. Turned out someone let fireworks off in the park.

Call A Cab

At 3:13 am, officers stopped a vehicle on 12th Street. Turns out no one in the vehicle had a license.

The vehicle was towed and the guys got a taxi ride to the Royal Inn.

Officers issued a citation for driving with a suspended license.

Suspicious Minds

  • Just after 7:30 am, officers were called to an office on 11th Street. A man was sleeping by the front door and an employee was afraid to go in. He’d left the area by the time officers arrived.
  • Police checked the area of Dorman Rive and North Hill Road just before 8 am. They were looking for a man who’d been seeing looking in cars for the past few days.

House Check

  • Police and Health Department workers checked inside a vacant home on Boundary Street just before 10 am. A caller reported people living inside. After initially being given the wrong address, they were able to check the house. No one was inside and the property was still secure.
  • At 10:39 am, officers checked another vacant house on Boundary Street. No one was inside.
  • Police moved on to 6th street by 10:41 am. They found a door open on a vacant home. No one was inside but the officer made moves to have the property condemned.

Vandals Hit Trojan Coliseum

  • Just after 10 am, officers were called to Trojan Coliseum for a report of vandalism. The field had been spray painted.
  • Just down the street, they got another report of vandalism at a PMHA apartment. It’s not known if the incidents are related.

Under the Influence

  • Officers were called to Tracy Park at 12:25 pm for a report of people sitting in a van smoking dope. Police didn’t observe any drugs but did advise them of the complaints.
  • A call came in around 3:30 pm regarding an apparently high woman who’d just walked into a Hutchins Street home. The woman apparently had no idea where she was. She left the home and headed down the alley towards Franklin. When officers caught up with her, she said she was very tired and drowsy. Her mother was on the way to take her home.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

  • Police were called to Ritchie Street for a report of a man grabbing his ex-wife’s wrists.
  • Police said the pair were arguing over money.
  • There were no injuries. No report was filed.

Porch Pirate?

  • Police were called to the Scioto Trail just after 1 pm for a report of a man stealing an Amazon package.
  • Police caught up with the man at Kinneys Lane and the Scioto Trail.
  • Turned out he was just picking up a cat from his girlfriend’s house. The cat happened to be in an Amazon box.

Not My Ammo

  • AT 2:35 pm, police got a call from a repo guy who found a whole bunch of ammunition in a repossessed vehicle.
  • Police advised that once you repo a vehicle, everything inside it belongs to the person who repossessed it. They told the guy he was more than welcome to return the ammo to the previous owner.

Catch and Release

Just before 3 pm, officers responded to a report of a shoplifter at Kroger.

The guy was issued a summons and a court date and sent on his way.

Family Matters

  • Just before 3 pm, officers were called to 7th Street. A man reported his grandson stole and used his grandparents’ credit card. Police took a report.
  • 911 received a call just after 8pm. They could hear a man yelling in the background. A Ritchie Street woman told dispatchers that her son, shoved her down and stole her bike. He was last seen on the Scioto Trail on her pink bike.

Good Samaritan

AT 8:40, a man found an iPhone on the levy behind SSU while walking his dog.

He turned it in at the fire department.

Dog vs. Jogger

Just before 9 am, officers were called to 8th Street for a reported fight. Turns out the fight was between a dog and a jogger.

A man was running when a strange dog ran out and bit him. The dog took off and so did the jobber.

Kids Gone Wild

  • Police were called to Wayne Avenue at 10:27 pm or a report of kids founding on the doors and windows on an apartment. They wanted to get in and fight the child who lived there. The kids were gone when officers arrived. Police were unable to locate them.
  • A few minutes later, police were called to Mound Street for a report of a child beating on a door and yelling for help. Turned out it was a girl upset that her brother was in trouble.
  • Just before 11 pm, police received another report of a teen knocking on windows on Sheridan Road. The window knocker was a teen boy. Teen girls live in the residence. The resident spoke to the boy’s parents.

Tire-Slashing Mad

Just before 11 pm, police responded to Robinson Avenue for a report of slashed tires. The victim did not want to file a report on her girlfriend.

About an hour later, police were called back to the home for a report of the woman who allegedly slashed the tires cutting her herself. She claimed the cuts were accidental, she got them in a fight. She didn’t want to file a report.

Bothered by Bikes

  • Police answered a call to 8th Street at 11:08 pm. A caller reported people riding mini bikes and making a lot of noise. Police advised them to put the bikes up for the night and not ride them on the streets.
  • Just three minutes later, police received a complaint of a guy riding dirt bike up and down Kendall Avenue. When officers arrived, the man was not there.
