Portsmouth, Ohio Police investigated a series of mask thefts from vehicles on 14th Street and I think you might just be able to locate one of the missing items if you read the reports closely. Plus a report of a 4-year-old riding a dirt bike unsupervised and a bunch of other unusual happenings. Check them out in these next 14 slides.

Crying Over Lost Drugs

A worried mom called police just after 1 am. She said her adult son was screaming and crying because he’d lost his drugs.

No Room At The Inn

Officers answered a call to the Royal Inn on Kendall Avenue about a woman who refused to leave the property.  While they were there, they picked Daryl Hyde on a domestic violence charge.

He was later released on his own recognizance.

Trashy Behavior

A Summit Street caller reported a man picking through trash and making a mess at 7:30 am. The suspect was a young man in a black and red hoodie with a black backpack.  Officers could not find him.

Not Stolen After All

Officers responded to an accident on Dorman Drive just after 11 am and discovered something fishy with the paperwork.

The vehicle came up as a stolen car. However, the driver had notarized proof that the owner gave her the car.

Police contacted the original owner who said she’d tried to report that she’d recovered her stolen vehicle multiple times.  Officers released the vehicle to the driver and arranged to have the former owner sign a request to stop the stolen car investigation.

Took My Mask, Left a Cap

At 12:11 pm, a 14th Street caller told police that his vehicle has been ransacked. The break-in happened sometime between 5 pm on 9/28 and noon on 9/29.

The thief stole a Wonder Woman face mask valued at about $10. The victim discovered a Buffalo Wild Wings ball cap in the car. Neither the victim or anyone else in his family wear ball caps. Police impounded the cap as evidence.

At 2:51 pm, a different 14th Street caller told police that someone broke into his car and stole a Buffalo Wild Wings Hat and a face mask with his deceased son’s name on it.

I’m not a detective but I think I might know where the hat is.

Wallet Found, Owner Gone

At 12:26 pm, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department asked Portsmouth Police to find a man with a Portsmouth address. Someone found his wallet in Wayne County.  It turned out the man had moved, possibly to Mexico.

Unhappy Customer

Police responded to a call at the Aaron’s on Walnut at 1:53 pm. The store reported an irate customer kept calling employees and made threats toward them.

Officers spoke with store employees and collected evidence about the call and a copy of the suspect’s photo ID.

You Again

At 2:10 pm, officers once again responded to 17th Street for a report that a man had threatened a woman.

Police frequently pick this suspect up in the area in reference to disturbance complaints. Officers asked his alleged victim to file an official report. She refused, though she said she’d call officers if he returned.

Home Alone?

  • A neighbor reported 4 kids aged, 12, 11, 7, and 10 months, left along at a Robinson Avenue apartment just after 2 pm.   Police said there was no answer at the door.
  • A Micklethwaite Road caller told police a 4-year-old was riding a dirt bike with no adults in sight. The caller said the child had dropped the bike twice.  When officers investigated, they discovered it was actually a small electric bike that looked a lot like a dirt bike. The child’s grandparents promised to supervise.

Yet another Portsmouth resident fell victim to a government imposter scam. She called the police at 3 pm to report someone called her and told her she was in trouble.

They asked for her Social Security number and she complied. Officers advised her to file a report with the FBI.

Screaming and Stripping

A caller reported a man screaming and stripping off his clothes in front of the Big Sandy Superstore. Police thought is sounded like a man who frequently causes disturbances in the area.

When they checked in with him at the gazebo, he seemed unusually calm. They sent him back to his camp.
