A Portsmouth man discovered you’re not allowed to hunt deer in your yard. Officers also dealt with multiple people under the influence and domestic situations. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Briefing.
1. Woman Found Lying Behind Bank
A citizen flagged down an officer just before 2 am to report a woman lying behind the DESCO Main Branch.
When police located the woman, she said was fine and did not want to go to a warming station. She said she was taking a walk.
2. Knock It Off
At 4 am, police responded to a report of two women fighting and screaming in a Kendall Avenue apartment.
One woman told police the woman causing the problem left before the officer arrived. Police advised her to knock off the nighttime noise.
3. Dumpster Diving
Just before 6 am, a 3rd Street caller reported teenage boys messing around in a dumpster. Officers could not locate the teens.
4. Hunting In My Back Yard
Officers responded to Cleveland Avenue at 10:55 am for a report of a deer shot with a bow in a back yard.
The resident admitted to shooting deer with a crossbow on his own acreage. Officers contacted ODNR to report the incident.
5. Hey, That’s My Stuff!
The Family Dollar on 11th Street reported a shoplifter at 11:25 am. Police discovered there was already a warrant for the man. Officers took him into custody.
6. Under The Influence
- It took three doses of Narcan to revive an overdose victim on 8th Street just before noon. The man refused further treatment.
- A 3rd Street caller reported an apparently high man in an orange shirt acting strangely at 2:17 pm. PPD discovered the man had a warrant from NBPD, but they didn’t want to serve the warrant. Officers took pictures of suspected damage to a building and released the man.
- A Jackson Avenue woman told police her intoxicated husband attempted to kick her and her son out of the house. She claimed the man started an argument with the child. The woman agreed to leave and the man agreed to stay inside.
- Just after 11 pm, a Thomas Avenue caller reported an apparently high man screaming. Police could not locate him.
7. Domestic Disputes
- Police responded to a report of a man assaulting a woman on Madison Street at 1:33 pm. Police took him into custody but the woman refused to give a statement. Neither party had visible injuries, so officers released the man.
- At 11:27 pm, a Kendall Avenue woman reported her ex-boyfriend had threatened her. Officers spoke with both parties. They advised they were arguing and agreed to separate.
8. Family Feud
A Summit Street woman told police her husband’s uncle threatened them.
Officers spoke to the uncle just after 5 pm. He claimed he was threatened. Police told him to lock his doors and call the police if there were threats. They advised him not to contact his nephew.
9. Welfare Check
Police assisted CPS on a welfare check on Woodland Avenue at 5:14 pm. However, the address turned out to be a vacant house.
10. Check The Closet
A 7th Street caller told police she suspected someone was inside a vent in her closet. An officer checked the closet at 8:44 pm and found no one. inside The officer said there’s no apparent entrance to the residence from the roof.
11. What’s That Noise?
Just before midnight, a Kendall Avenue caller reported hearing people inside a currently vacant apartment.
Officers didn’t hear anyone inside and no one answered the door. PHMA could not confirm if the apartment was vacant.
