Curtis Allen Shanks, 80, joined his beloved wife in heaven on January 20, 2021.
Curtis was born on April 2, 1940, in Wellsville, Ohio, son of the late John Henry Shanks and Mable Mildred Shanks (Watkins).
Surviving are his three daughters: Lisa (Alan) Carnahan of Boardman, Ohio, Karen (Ron) Scarberry of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Tiffany (Mark) Moore of Portsmouth, Ohio. 11 grandkids: Zachary, Allyson, Emily, Alex, Britney, Baby Z, Autumn, Haley, Riley, Tyler, and Savannah. 4 great-grandkids: Julianne, Nevaeh, Eva, and Sophia. Also, surviving are his siblings, Darrell (Lois) Shanks, Joyce Morrow, Judy Martin, Johnny (Arlene) Shanks, Sharon (Jim) Webber.
Curt was a 1957 graduate of Wellsville High School. He married the love of his life, Janice (Moncrief) Shanks, on May 15, 1965. They loved to match their outfits and travel to the Bahamas together. He held many positions within the Poland, Ohio community: Little Buckeye football, little league girls softball, and president of the band parents. He was a lover of all sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He even tried out for the Detroit Tigers baseball team. He loved to garden – especially sunflowers and vegetables – and watch Gunsmoke with his three dogs: Murphy, Daisy, and Taz. You could find him sitting on the porch reading his newspaper and drinking a beer almost every day. His pride and joy was his larger than life Christmas Village being enjoyed by all of his friends and family.
His friends at First Christian Church welcomed him and his wife to Portsmouth over 20 years ago, and they will miss his jokes on Sundays.
