A crook struck out at one of Portsmouth’s most beloved landmarks. Police say they vandalized a mural and stole a trailer belonging to the mural painter. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
Police answered a call to 7th and Lincoln at 7:13 am for a report of 3 men and a woman fighting in the back of a home. A man at the scene told police a man and woman were arguing there earlier but had left the scene.
Motorcycle Stolen
Just before 8 am, a Franklin Avenue caller reported a stolen motorcycle.
Cruiser Hit Near Notre Dame
A probation officer in a cruiser was involved in a car accident on Sunrise Avenue near Notre Dame High School just before 8 am.
Under The Influence
- A witness reported an apparently high man with a backpack slumped over near 25th and Ritchie at 8:54 am. Police discovered he had an open warrant and took him into custody.
- Five minutes later a caller reported a driver in a green chevy who was apparently too high to drive. Police discovered people inside the vehicle sleeping when they arrived. Neither person had a warrant but the man’s license was suspended. Police advised him to leave the vehicle park and go to a family member’s home.
Murals Damaged By Thieving Vandals
A thief and vandal hit one of the floodwall murals. Police received a call at 9:30 am reporting the mural painter’s trailer was stolen.
The thief also vandalized a mural and wrote “EF Genuine Beauty Bekah” on the wall. Police took information for a report.
Oil Drum Dispute
A man called police at 9:40 am to report that Hurley’s Garage had refused to return some 55-gallon oil drums to him. He claimed he sold oil to the garage on the condition that the drums be returned to him.
However, he’d been back to the garage five times and the owner had refused to return the barrels. Police called and asked to speak to the owner. An employee said the owner would call back, but they never did. Officers advised it was a civil matter.
