An apparently dead man sprang back to life after an overdose and a fatal crash on US 52. We look at the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Under the Influence
- Police were called to Spring Street for a report of an overdose at a healthcare facility. Staff said the man was being uncooperative with the staff. Police said he appeared to be under the influence when they arrived. Staff at the healthcare facility made a plan to help the patient get treatment.
- Speedway employees reported a man overdosed in the bathroom just after 5 pm. An ambulance was dispatched but the man refused treatment.
- Just before 6 pm, police responded to Spartan Stadium for a report of someone making death threats. A relative told police the man had mental health issues. An ambulance transported him for treatment.
- Friends asked police to check the welfare of a Walnut Street woman. They were worried she might be using drugs and that someone was preventing her from leaving the premises. The woman said she had indeed relapsed but was otherwise fine.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
At 2:32 pm, a caller reported a wallet stolen from Kroger.
Suspicious Activity
At 9:30 pm, police responded to a report of a man lying on a sidewalk with facial injuries. Officers sent for an ambulance to transport the man to a hospital.
Patient in Danger
Police went on the hunt for a patient that made a run for it from SOMC. Officers said the patient was in the process of being transferred to another facility for mental health issues. However, he jumped out of the ambulance and ran off towards 25th Street.
Man Assaulted by Kids
Around 5 am, a caller reported someone being assaulted on Grant Street and a red truck fleeing the scene. When police arrived at the scene they spoke with a man who said he was assaulted by several juveniles who jumped out of a red truck and attacked him.
He did not want to press charges.
Dead Man Springs Back To Life
Just after 9 am, a Thomas Avenue mom reported that she’d discovered her son dead on the floor of an apartment.
When an ambulance arrived at the scene, they discovered the man had actually overdosed. He was awake by the time police arrived.
An ambulance transported him to the hospital for treatment.
Fatal Crash on US 52
At 10:19, officers responded to the 6600 block of US 52 for a fatal accident at the city limit line. The Ohio State Patrol took over the investigation.
Missing Granddaughter
A worried grandpa contacted police just before 2 pm. His teenage granddaughter had a medical incident at Kroger the previous day and was transported to the hospital. She was released to an unknown person and he hadn’t been able to contact her.
Officers located her at a 9th Street residence. Her grandfather picked her up and took her home.
