Police responded to a body discovered in a 3rd Street home and a man is arrested for the 55th time. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
Just after 3 am, a Linden Avenue caller reported someone attempting to get in the back window. Officers checked the area but could not locate anyone.
Disturbing the Peace
Police responded to a noise complaint at a PHMA apartment on 17th Street at 4:42 am. When officers approached the scene they heard music and yelling. They advised the resident to quiet down or get a citation.
Condemned House Broken Into
Officers discovered the boards pulled from a condemned home on 17th Street just before 5 am. The plywood to the basement door was off and the door was open.
Police chose not to enter the structure and instead left a message for Code Enforcement.
Unidentified Woman In ICU
SOMC requested help to ID a woman who was brought to the hospital by the rescue squad the night before. She was admitted to the ICU without any ID.
They wanted to make sure police knew she was there in case she’d been reported missing.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
A man contacted police to report a stolen food stamp card just after noon.
At 12:41, a 17th street resident reported a stolen generator. He told the police he knew who the thief was. Officers took information for a report.
Man Arrested for 55th Time
A troubled man with whom police have daily contact was arrested for the 55th time. Just after 2:30 pm, police were called to Chillicothe Street for a report of a man attempting to stop traffic.
Witnesses said the man was nearly hit twice. Such behavior is common for the man, who has substance abuse and mental health issues.
In the past few weeks, he’s been revived after an overdose in Tracy Park and discovered lying on the levy with part of his finger missing.
Police took the man into custody.
Not Much of a Party
Officers busted a woman with open warrants at the Party Connection at 2:45 pm. They questioned her about another open case and then took her to jail on open warrants.
Kids Acting Up on Thomas Avenue
Police were called to Thomas Avenue for a report of two kids busting glass mason jars in the street. Police observed shards of glass from pickle jars in the roadway.
The officer kicked the glass out of the road and advised the kids to behave.
Body Discovered on 3rd Street
A worried dad contacted police at 4:41 pm after not seeing his son for a few days. Neighbors had not seen the man and mail was piled up. Police joined him at a 3rd Street home to make entry.
An officer was able to get in through a back window where they discovered the deceased man.
Police contacted the coroner, and a funeral home was dispatched to the scene.
