A vehicle bursts into flames on Poplar and egg-throwing vandals hit a Chillicothe Street business. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Crooks Hit Animal Clinic
At 8:37 am, the Scioto Trail Animal Clinic reported someone attempted to break in the night before.
There was evidence the intruder had tried breaking in all of the doors. There was a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the lot for quite some time.
A tow company removed the vehicle.
Kid Keeps Calling 911
A child at a Mound Street home repeatedly called 911 from a 911 only phone around 9 am. The child kept hanging up the phone and refused to allow the dispatcher to speak to an adult.
The calls kept going to Greenup County. There was no answer at the door.
Suspicious Activity
At 11 am, a caller reported a man in the alley behind his 12th Street home talking to himself and acting as if he is on drugs.
Business Egged on Chillicothe Street
Eggers struck again, this time at LC Nails on Chillicothe Street. Someone threw eggs on the windows and the door of the business.
Police took information for a criminal mischief report.
Under the Influence
A man overdosed on Vinton Avenue just after 3 pm. He refused medical treatment.
Police responded to a report of a woman with a child in her vehicle nodding out at Gatti’s Pizza. The woman told police her mother was going to come to the location and drive the vehicle home for her.
Needles at the Royal Inn
At 3:22 pm a witness reported a disturbing scene at the Royal Inn. They said the door was open and there was a woman with a needle in her food and a man with a needle in his arm.
When police arrived at the scene, the pair denied using drugs. They said the caller was a friend they allowed to stay the night. He left angry and threatened to call the police.
Officers said the pair did not appear to be intoxicated.
Trouble at Tim Horton’s
Police responded to Tim Horton’s for a report of an apparently high woman in the bathroom stringing clothing everywhere.
When officers responded to the scene, they discovered a troubled woman with whom they have nearly daily contact. They advised her to gather her things and leave the property.
Officers served her with a trespass order and advised her not to return.
Break-in at Goodwill
At 7:36 pm, a witness reported someone broke into the fence behind the Goodwill on Robinson Avenue.
The man ran off in the direction of 12th Street. Police caught up with him and took him into custody. They dropped him off at the Scioto County Jail.
Vehicle Bursts Into Flames Near Church
Police and fire were called to Poplar Street after a car caught fire by the church just before 11 pm.
The owner said he’d parked there just a few minutes before and doesn’t know why the vehicle would have burst into flames.
Officers also notified City Services to bring a salt truck to the area.
