Vacant houses continue to plague Portsmouth neighborhoods despite promises to crack down on the problem.
Just after 10 am, a Hutchins Street resident reported an issue at a vacant house in the neighborhood. He said that the front door is usually shut, but was now standing open.
When an officer checked the house, they discovered the front and back doors were open. The officer didn’t find anyone inside but could not secure the house because the locks and doorknobs were removed. The officer was unable to contact anyone about the unsecured front door.
A Daniels Drive caller reported an open front door on a vacant house just after 2 pm. An officer was able to contact code enforcement to board up the door.
