James W. Kerns Jr, 66, of Franklin Furnace passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was born January 27, 1956, in Lawrence County, a son of the late James W. Kerns and Irene (Thomas) Kerns.
He attended Green and East schools, loved woodworking, building furniture, home decor, going fishing and hunting. He enjoyed listening to music and most of all – going to auctions.
Jim is survived by his wife, Melissa (Law) Kerns; four daughters, Crystal (Aaron) Scott of Bellbrooke, Marsha Kerns and Billy Hassink of Kettering, Annie (Jeremy) Adams of Franklin Furnace and Micah Kerns and Matt Hampton of Wheelersburg; a brother, Robert “Bob” Kerns of West Portsmouth; five sisters, Lana (Jimmy) Carver of Wheelersburg, Patty Mager of Ashland, KY, Linda Robinson, Tammy (Wally) Weddington and Lucinda Kerns all of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Hannah, Darrien, Caleb, Justice, Addy, Elliana, Kingston and Emmelia; a special friend and former son-in-law, Chris Powell.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessie, brother-in-law and best friend, Daniel “Blue” Mager.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, October 8, 2022, at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN WHEELERSBURG with interment to follow at Junior Furnace Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
