Disco Party Lights at the Splash Pad? That and More Park Information
Several lighting features are being installed around Earl Thomas Conley Park due to a grant awarded to the Scioto County Commissioners.
According to the Commissioners, lights will be installed at the new Pump Track, the basketball courts, and the splash pad. The walking trail, spanning over a mile, was recently completed. Lighting that area poses a logistical problem, which the Commissioners are still trying to resolve. Commissioner Scottie Powell told SCDN, “We are looking at the walking paths. It’s a little more complicated due to the length and running (electricity) down there.” Some consideration is being given to solar options.
There is a possibility of adding a special lighting feature to the splash pad. There is a strong interest among commissioners in having a secondary set of “Party Lights” that will illuminate the night sky during special events.
After regular business hours, the Splash Pad may be available for rental. It would be a great venue for birthday parties, reunions, or even a unique “Splash Dance.”
SCDN will sponsor the first “Splash Dance” to kick things off as soon as those secondary party lights are approved and installed.
Opening day for the Splash Pad is Monday, May 8th.
In addition, the commissioners discussed the new park being built at Greenup Dam. Commissioner Scottie Powell took these photos.
Commissioner Cathy Coleman gave a special thanks to Brian Howell, the park director. In addition, it was highlighted that the park staff had built the new picnic tables from scratch.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned once the park is completed.
The name of the new park has not yet been determined. Residents of Green and Porter Townships are especially encouraged to submit suggestions to the commissioners. It was suggested that the park might be named after a model citizen from those townships. Anyone with any suggestions is welcome to contact the commissioners’ office.
