Dogs Seized After Killing Cat In West Portsmouth
The Scioto County Dog Warden seized two dogs after a report of an attack in West Portsmouth. Around 10 am, a witness reported two white dogs running loose on 8th Street. The caller said they attacked and killed a cat.
A deputy caught up with the dogs and put them in her backseat until the dog warden was able to meet up with her at the Super Quick. The dog warden took custody of the dogs.
Officers returned to West Portsmouth for another report of a deadly dog attack at 5 pm. A woman said a pit bull came onto her property and killed her dog and her cat. It also attacked another dog in the yard as well. The pet owner said she believed she knew where the attacking dog lived.
The Dog Warden said she would attempt to locate the aggressive dog.
Dog Theft Reported on 11th Street
Just before 7 pm, a caller reported that someone had stolen her dog. When officers investigated, they learned the woman and left the dog with a family friend for two weeks, and now the man would not return it.
Police spoke to the man who claimed he was now the legal owner of the dog and had the paperwork to show it. The man said he had rescued the dog after it was left behind at an abandoned house, and the Dog Warden assured him it was all right to take it.
The woman said her father had passed away, and she was in the middle of dealing with the estate. She claimed the dog was never abandoned and that she’d simply allowed the man to visit the dog.
Police told the woman this appeared to be a civil issue and she should take the man to small claims court.
The next day Animal Control checked the dog for a microchip and determined that it did still belong to the original owner. They took the dog and contacted the owner.
