McDermott Man Shot in Face – Attacker Caught After Crash
A McDermott man is in stable condition after he was shot in the face on Saturday.
The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office said his wife called 9-1-1 to report William Dummitt, 23, had been shot in the face and his assailant had fled the scene in a truck.
Medics and officers responded to the scene, and the victim was transported to SOMC and then to a trauma center.
While investigating the crime, officers learned of a truck crash on Pollock Road. When Ohio State Troopers responded, they discovered the truck matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle in the shooting.
Officers responded to the scene of the crash and discovered a weapon in the truck. A search of the area turned up the suspect, Henry Allan Clay, Jr., 26, of Lucasville. Medics transported him to SOMC for treatment.
Officers took him into custody, but he was sent on to Grant Hospital in Columbus. After his release from the hospital, he was booked into the Scioto County Jail on charges of felonious assault, having weapons under a disability, and DUI.
The court set his bond at $50,000.
