In the regular session of the Scioto County Commissioners, the normally reserved Cathy Coleman interjected the word “Groovy” into the public record.
Commissioner Scottie Powell was going over some new businesses investing in Scioto County. First up, Rose Valley Animal Park will be opening their petting zoo in Minford on Saturday July, 22nd. They are located at 330 Marcum Rd in Minford.
According to their Facebook page, the Petting Zoo has a Sloth, Porcupines, Prairie Dogs, Camels, Zebra, Ostriches, Emus, Kangaroo’s, Bison, Water Buffalo, Zebu cattle, Mini Highlands, Mini horses and donkeys, Kune pigs, 200 parakeets, lots of goats with babies, and much more. They advertise a huge play area with slides and a splash pad as well as Gem mining and a concession area.
The Rose Valley Animal Park will be open Wed-Sat 10-6, Sun 12-6. Closed Mon and Tues. The entrance fee is $10 cash at the door and children under 2 get free admission.
Commissioner Powell spoke about the Boneyfiddle Golf & Lounge that will be opening soon at 347 3rd Street in Portsmouth. In his remarks, he praised the private investments being made throughout the county and encouraged families to engage and participate.
Commissioner Davis informed the public that he would be attending the National Association of Counties Conference in Austin, Texas. That conference will have a heavy emphasis on economic development. In addition, Davis said that he will also be continuing the conversation in his capacity on the Mental Health and Wellness Commission while in Texas.
Commissioner Coleman spoke about the county employee appreciation picnic at Earl Thomas Conley Park. Her comments thanked the park director and staff for their hard work and referred to each new feature by name.
That’s when the conversation turned to music. Whilst Commissioner Coleman spoke about the Earl Thomas Conley Park, Commissioner Powell was reminded of the Rt 52 Music Festival that will be happening there with local singer-songwriter Rick Ferrel and several of his rowdy friend. There will be food trucks and plenty of fun for all.
Also, at the same time, the Final Friday music series continues with “Portstock”. This promises to be a fun-filled event with prizes awarded for the best “Hippie Costume”. Tent camping will also be included in the fun.
This is when Commissioner Coleman said, “It sounds Groovy”. This quote was then requested to be used as the headline for this rundown by Commissioner Powell. How could we resist?
