As if our area didn’t have enough connectivity problems, thieves decided to steal some copper wiring from a wireless tower.
Workers on the Lawrence County tower contacted the Sheriff’s Office to say they were in the process of servicing a tower and had left a large strand of copper wire hanging from the tower and 40 feet coiled up on the ground when they finished work for the day.
When they returned to the tower the next day, the cable was cut and the wire missing. Thieves had cut a hole in the fence surrounding the tower. Employees told officers this was the second theft from that tower this year.
Officers took information for a report.
