Small businesses in Scioto County can get a helping hand from the county’s grant program for small businesses.
According to Commissioner Bryan Davis, businesses can apply at the Scioto County Economic Development Office on Court Street.
The amount of the grants varies, with the maximum award being $50,000. “There is no minimum,” Davis said. “This has been going on for some time. We announced it nearly a year ago. There are a lot of grants already in process. “
Davis said that any business that is creating jobs can apply. “That’s the number one criteria. They have to create sustainable jobs full-time positions. Part-time is fine, but we’re looking for full-time. We’re looking for wages. There is a scoring criteria. You get more points for higher wages. It can be any kind of business. We’ve had education companies, we’ve awarded to a trash disposal company, a food fitness meal prep company. These are the kinds of businesses that are popping up in our community. “
Davis said more grants will be announced soon. “What we’re looking for is companies that are creating sustainable jobs for the foreseeable future.” The commissioner said the grants could cover equipment, buildouts, and materials but can’t be used to cover wages or benefits. “We especially support companies that are tackling some of the ills of our areas. It’s wide-open.”
