A mom who went shoplifting with her kids at Walmart tried to get away by hiding the loot in her diaper bag.
Officers responded to the South Point Walmart just after 5 pm, where loss prevention had detained Natalie Stapleton and her two young children.
Employees said the woman put a punch of merchandise in her diaper bag and then went through the self-checkout, where she only paid for a few items in her cart. She then left the store without paying.
Store employees stopped her, and an officer stood by while they retrieved the items from her diaper bag. A deputy cited her for shoplifting, gave her a court date, and released her.
The next day, another group of shoplifters turned up at the store with a baby on board. Loss prevention detained two women who had shoved almost $500 worth of baby items into a duffle bag before leaving the store. The women had a small child with them but spoke little English. They told officers they were from Romania.
The women told officers they were from Virginia but had been dropped off at the Walmart by their cousin. Officers located the cousin outside and told him about the shoplifting. He said the child belonged to him and that he was willing to pay for the merchandise.
Police turned the child over to him and took the women Andrea Maria Stoiculescu and Laura Nicola into custody.
