An eagle-eyed Fed-Ex driver called 911 after they spotted a man hitting a woman with a pistol in the 5800 block of Harding Avenue.
Officers called the nearby school to notify them of the issue, and the school went into lockdown.
Officers searched the area but could not locate the man with the gun. After clearing the area, they notified the school that the area was safe.
Thankfully, FedEx trucks are equipped with cameras and recording equipment. We hope to give you an update on this incident.
At the time, there was confusion about which schools were locked down. Portsmouth Police Chief Debby Brewer announced that despite rumors that all Portsmouth City Schools were on lockdown, this only affected Portsmouth East for a short period of time.
