Joan Newkirk Brownlee, 90, a native of Adams County, Ohio and a resident of Houma, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Stewart, Jennifer Rostorfer, and Dr. Janice Naquin; son, Curtis Brownlee; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Newkirk and Robert Newkirk; sister, Ruth Funderburk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Brownlee; sons, James A. Brownlee, Stanley E. Brownlee, and John C. Brownlee; grandson, Shaun Secott; parents, Orval Newkirk and Anna Wright Newkirk; brothers, Howard Newkirk, George Newkirk, Wilbur Newkirk, and John Newkirk; and sisters, Gemimia Harris, Hazel Newkirk, Patricia Cox, Dorothy Boiman, Shirley Newkirk, and Gladys Coriell.
Joan was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness for over 70 years. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, and grandmother. As a military wife, she followed her husband to Mississippi, Florida, England, and North Dakota. Joan’s husband had several assignment where she was unable to accompany him. Instead, she stayed at home caring for their seven children. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank all of Joan’s doctors and Haydel Memorial Hospice for their care of their mother.
Burial will be on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in Mt Joy Cemetery in Rarden. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2024 with Minister Raymond Staten officiating at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway.
