Coin Box Busters
Just before 9 am, employees of Hot Springs Car Wash on Gay Street called the police to report someone had broken into the car wash. The crook broke the locks on the coin machine and stole all the change. Officers took information for a report.
At 3:25 pm, a woman called 911 to say she’d met up with a man in front of A1 Auto Glass to sell him her speakers. She said the man grabbed the speakers and ran off. However, she said she still had his phone. She told officers the business’s security cameras should have footage of the thief. Officers took information for a report.
Around 2 pm, a 14th Street caller told officers that someone broke into their vehicle and stole a wallet. Officers took information for a report.
Metal Thieves Caught in the Act
Owners of an 8th Street business called 911 to report three people stealing metal from their property. They said the crooks took off running toward the Young Street Overpass and left their vehicle behind.
Police had the vehicle towed to the impound lot.
Officers tracked down the owner of the car at their Summit Street Home and read them their rights. They also made arrangements to meet with the business owner to get photos of the missing metal.
Thieves Hit Winchester Avenue Home
A man called 911 at 10:30 am to report someone broke into his house and stole multiple items.
When officers arrived on the scene, the man told them he was asleep during the break-in and could not identify a suspect.
Officers saw no sign of forced entry, and the man said he must have left his door unlocked.
He told officers he would take inventory of the missing items and call them if he wanted to make a police report.
Walmart Shoplifters Heist Air Fresheners
A pair of Walmart shoplifters were hoping to make the house smell sweeter and made off with air fresheners and wax for candle warmers from the South Point Store.
Officers were called to the scene around 1 pm after loss prevention spotted a woman failing to scan multiple items in her cart and her companion stuffing items in her purse. Both left the store without paying.
When officers spoke to the women, one woman admitted placing multiple items in her purse, including a jewelry box, air fresheners, and wax for candle warmers.
Her companion said she’d forgotten to scan the sweeper in her card and mistakenly scanned the wrong barcode for a set of sheets in her cart. However, her companion said she’d intentionally skipped the scanning.
Officers took the pair into custody. Walmart agreed to refund the balance of the items the woman had actually paid for and put them back on the shelves since she wasn’t able to take them with her to jail.
Both women were booked into the Lawrence County Jail.
