Mom Wants Justice & More PPD Calls

Mom Wants Justice & More PPD Calls
ShareTweetEmail

A mom wants justice after an OD and Portsmouth Police face a unique problem in today’s call log. They’ve got nowhere to take the people they’d normally arrest. Time after time on the police logs for the past three days, officers attempt to take people to either jail or the hospital, only to get refused.

I usually enjoy pointing out the lighter crimes, but there are quite a few ODs in there this time. There’s an especially tragic case of a mom who wanted to confront the teen she says sold her son the drugs that killed him.

We do have a mouse attempting a B & E to lighten things up just a bit. As always, we thank Portsmouth Police for their hard work during this troubling time and Interim Chief Brewer for sharing the logs with us.

Triple Arrest in Portsmouth After Gun Theft Report

Here are the calls PPD officers responded to between 3/30 and the early part of 4/1

Go Directly to Kroger

Just after midnight on Monday, officers responded to a 17th Street apartment where a woman was afraid that a man was overdosing.

Both the hospital and the Scioto County Jail refused to accept him, so officers gave the man a ride to Kroger where he was supposed to meet a ride.

The next day, officers ran into him stumbling down 17th street. He appeared to be overdosing. Once again, he was sent on his way.

Mom Wants Justice For Overdose Death

Just a few minutes later, police were called to Oakland Avenue for a report of an overdose death. Police supervised the transfer of the man’s body to the Coroner.

Around 7 pm, the victim’s mother called police to say she had information about an 18-year-old who sold her son drugs that he later overdosed on.

She was headed to confront the man, but police convinced her not to.

At exactly the same time as the PPD was responding to the OD death, another man overdosed at the Woodbine apartments on Kendall Avenue. He was taken to SOMC.

Thirty minutes later, they responded to another OD at the Woodbine Apartments. The patient also refused.

Just before 8, police responded to a report of a man overdosing on a porch on 8th Street.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, police responded to an overdose having a seizure on Center Street. The patient refused treatment.

Package Theft

Just after Noon on Monday, someone helped themselves to an Amazon shipment on Wayne Avenue. Two children’s tablets and hair detangler were stolen.

What’s in the attic?

Just after 1 pm, a man cleaning his home on 20th street discovered someone sleeping in his attic. Officers found the man inside the home. He apparently entered through an open front door before heading upstairs for a nap.

Around 5 pm, a husband and wife got into it at a North Hill Road home. The wife said the husband pushed her. Both parties refused to leave the home. Officers suggested that someone ought to go.

Not The View You Want

Around 5:45 pm,  a woman called police to tell them about an unpleasant view from her living room window. She said a teenage man was urinating in front of the window. When she called him on it, he told her he could pee anywhere he wanted. Then he left. Police advised her to call back if he did it again.

Bike Spotted

Just after 7:30 pm, a woman spotted a man riding her bike that had been stolen the night before. The suspected thief was wearing a gray hoodie and pedaling a purple and white bike. When he realized someone was on to him, he ditched the bike and ran away. She was able to recover her bike.

Babe, I’m Leaving

A Timlin Road resident reported a suspicious female, she says has been trespassing on multiple properties.

The woman is described  5’3” with light hair and in her early 20s. She’s wearing capris, a hoodie, and carrying a large backpack. A witness said she takes pictures of multiple properties.

The woman who called police says she confronted her outside her kitchen door and asked what she was doing there. The picture-taking woman said, “Babe, I’m leaving and walked away.”

Police advised her to call back if the woman is spotted again.

Pizza Prank

Someone seems to have a lot of time on their hands. Just after 10 pm, Domino’s Pizzas reported to the police that someone has prank ordered pizza three days in a row. They’ve lost $150 worth of product.

Fighting Mad

Just before 11, officers responded to Center Street for a call about a man taking off his clothes and ‘fighting the air.’ When police arrived, he said he was good. Just angry and working it out.

No Place To Go

Just before 2 pm on Tuesday, a business reported an apparently high man jumping up and down in the road who was distracting drivers.

When officers arrived on the scene they learned the man was from Columbus and there was a parole holder on him from Franklin County. He’d been in the Scioto County Jail but they’d decided to release him. Officers sent him on his way.

Suspicious Mouse

Officers were called to Timmonds Avenue in the wee hours of Wednesday morning for a report of someone trying to get in the back of the house. The burglar turned out to be a mouse. It was not arrested.
