Barbara Hannah, 78 of West Portsmouth, died Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Doctors Hospital in Columbus surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 27,1947 in Portsmouth to the late Oscar and Rena Sapp Nelson.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard “Roger” Hannah Sr. and her first husband, Sonny Grove, an infant child PLG, a son, Anthony Michael Hannah, a daughter, Pamela Grove, brothers; James Earl Nelson, Harold Nelson, Douglas Nelson, Robert Nelson, and William Nelson along with a sister Shirley Thiele.
Barbara was a 1965 graduate of Portsmouth West High School and was a Foster mother to many. Barb was the caretaker and soother of 100’s if not 1000’s of babies between her career and her role as a matriarch. She was such a force of life and love that any wild creature would calmly come up and politely take the food from her hands as along as it wasn’t a snake.
Barbara is survived by 2 sons; Zachary Hannah and Leonard Hannah Jr., 2 daughters; Penny Nelson and Jenny Klawon, a brother, Carl “Butch” (Debbie) Nelson, a special brother-in-law and best friends, Samuel E. and Gail Hannah Sr. and a host of grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with interment to follow in Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday starting at 11:00 AM. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
