A wild night on Disterdick Lane ended with a citizen takedown and an arrest after a man on a four-wheeler allegedly tore through yards, cursed at neighbors, and tried to start fights.
Just after dark, multiple 911 calls came in reporting a man on an ATV screaming, swearing, and challenging people to fight. One caller warned dispatch that her husband, who was on the scene, was armed and trying to keep things from escalating.
As officers rushed to the neighborhood, another caller reported that residents had managed to get the man off the ATV and hold him on the ground until law enforcement arrived.
Deputies soon discovered the detained man had an open warrant through the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. They took him into custody and arranged for the ATV to be towed from the scene.
Ryan Stapleton was arrested on a charge of criminal endangering and booked into the Scioto County Jail. He later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.
Neighbors say the chaos on Disterdick Lane could have turned dangerous fast — but thanks to quick thinking from residents and deputies, the situation ended without anyone getting hurt.
