Ammo Explodes During House Fire on St. Rte 772
Firefighters responding to a house fire on St. Rte 772 got a little more than they bargained for when ammunition inside the home began to explode.
The call for the fire came in at 5:38 am, and local VFD members from Rarden and Union Fire Departments responded to the scene along with first responders from Pike County’s Camp Creek Fire Department. Officers contacted the power company to ask that they shut off power to the home.
Later that day, the homeowner contacted the SCSO to say that she believed it was arson. She said the man who was living at the home made threats to burn the house down.
However, the resident told first responders the fire was started by a space heater. At the time, firefighters did not call in the Fire Marshal.
A deputy took a report to forward to the Fire Marshal.
