Portsmouth Police arrested a man for the 50th time and also dealt with an angry former employee who threatened to burn a business down. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Who Let The Dog Out?
Police answered a call about a loose, aggressive German shepherd on Linden Avenue at 7:30 pm. The dog’s owner spotted the animal’s escape on her security cameras and sent someone to put the dog back up.
Grandma Reports Bridge Jumper
A grandma contacted police at 11:30 pm to say she received a picture of her grandson on the Grant Bridge threatening to jump off.
Police caught up with the man at Tracy Park about 5 minutes later. He said he was never anywhere near the bridge and that he’d simply turned off the location services on his phone so his grandmother couldn’t track him and he’d never made any threats to harm himself.
Attempted Burglary
A Woodbine Apartment resident called just after midnight to report someone attempting to break into his apartment. He said he had a video of the incident. Police took information for a report.
Crash Takes Out Power Lines
At 5 am, an SUV took out a pole, knocking down power lines at Swauger Valley Road and Harding Avenue. Police issued a citation to the driver for failure to control and impounded the vehicle.
Suspicious Activity
Just after 2 pm, an 8th Street Caller reported seeing a man climb through the window of a residence. Upon investigation, police learned the man had permission to be in the house.
Angry Ex-Employee Threatens To Burn Business down
The general manager of a local pizza place contacted police to report a former employee who threatened to burn the business down.
The fired employee was angry over a dispute about work uniforms and caused a scene at the restaurant, yelling and cursing before he threatened to burn the place down.
The owner didn’t think the former employee would actually burn the place down but wanted to make a report just in case.
Man Exposes Himself, Urinates at Restaurant
A caller reported a confused man exposing his private parts and urinating on the door at Toro Loco on Washington Street.
Officers assisted the intoxicated man, who also suffers from Alzheimer’s, and released him to his son.
Man Arrested For the 50th Time
Just after 5 pm, police received a report of a man running in and out of traffic on 9th Street. When they arrived on the scene, they discovered a troubled man with whom they have nearly daily contact.
Officers took him into custody, the man’s 50th arrest. They transported him to the Scioto County Jail.
