A Kentucky man was willing to confess to arson, but only if he could stay at his favorite Ohio Jail. Just after 8 pm, the man followed a deputy into the lobby of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and told him he’d burned down his home in Ashland and wanted to turn himself in.
He told officers he’d burned down his home on Miller Street in Ashland and lied to the fire marshal about how it started. He felt it was time to tell the truth. When asked why he came to Ohio to confess instead of calling Ashland Police, he said he’d spent a lot of time in the Lawrence County Jail and felt more comfortable there.
An Ashland officer came to the Sheriff’s Office to interview the man about the incident. When the officer finished, they told the man they’d forward a report to the prosecutor and that he was free to leave. The confessed arsonist asked the Kentucky Officer for a ride back to Kentucky, but they refused.
A Lawrence County Deputy gave the man a ride to the Russell Bridge, and he walked back across to Kentucky.
