Barbara Jean Underwood, 90, a longtime Sciotodale resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior when she passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in McDermott. Barb was born on January 22, 1933, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of the late Roy Francis and Helen Louise Rose Storey.
On June 4, 1950, she married Richard Arlen Underwood in Catlettsburg, KY, and they were married for 47 years at the time of his death on February 10, 1998.
While Barb was primarily a homemaker, she had worked at the former Kobacker’s and Marting’s Department Stores and the Portsmouth Banking Co. She was a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving is her daughter, Brenda Sue Campbell of Portsmouth; a granddaughter, Sarah Michelle (Russ) Lusk of McDermott; and three great-granddaughters, Lilliana, Alexa and Kenna Lusk.
Barb was also preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Linda Louise Underwood, who was a victim of the 1968 Wheelersburg tornado; and her son-in-law, Wayne Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Chris Keaton officiating. The interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 7 PM and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
