BB Gun Shooters Target Disabled Hilltop Resident

Drive-by BB gun shooters have taken aim at Portsmouth residents for the past week, targeting everyone from school kids to the elderly in all parts of town.

They struck again Monday night, this time targeting a disabled Hilltop resident out for a ride on their mobility scooter.

The frightened citizen, who spoke with SCDN on the condition of anonymity, said, “I was on my scooter having a nice stroll and they were in a car near 17th and Grandview. I heard the metallic sounds coming from the car and the pellets hitting the house beside me. I zoomed over to mound park and got too far from the street to strike.”

In an hour time span last week, the shooter targeted a woman on Chillicothe Street, a 6th Street resident, and a woman exiting Kroger.

The attackers also shot a child in the face on Vinton Avenue while he was walking home from school.

His mother said he was shot in the face, but the BB didn’t penetrate the skin. However, the child had a large bruise.

The latest victim described the vehicle as a late-model black Honda Civic. “Shots came from the passenger window but I couldn’t tell if there was a person there or if the driver just rolled down the window.” Fortunately, the victim was not injured.

The nervous victim said they had an anxious trip home. “I flinched with every passing car on the way home.”

The shooters have been described as driving white sedans, burgundy trucks, and a black Honda. It’s unknown if it’s the same person or a group of individuals or if the shootings are related in any way.
