Body Found In Portsmouth, Ohio Shed

Portsmouth, Ohio Police found a body in a shed and dealt with a string of bizarre calls that appeared to be related to drugs. We break down the highlights.

Suspicious Activity

• Just before 2 am, a Summit Street caller reported a strange sound at the back door. An officer checked it out about 15 minutes later but didn’t see anyone.
• Police answered a report about a man walking down 5^th Street with a baseball bat at 3:28 pm. They could not locate him.
• At 6:11 pm, officers responded to a report of a shirtless man, screaming and punching the air on Chillicothe Street. Officers made contact with a man they see just about every single day and advised him to calm down.
• Officers responded to a report of a man screaming at himself in an alley on Boundary Street. An ambulance took him to SOMC.

The Guest That Wouldn’t Leave

A 7^th Street caller reported a drunk woman who refused to leave. Officers advised the woman to leave and wait somewhere for a ride. Police said she didn’t seem intoxicated to them.

Choked By A Boyfriend

At 8:43 am, officers responded to Mabert Road for a domestic violence incident. A woman said her boyfriend choked her. He left the home but she was afraid he would come back.

Police took her to a domestic violence shelter.

Busted Windows

Officer answered a call to the Park and Ride at 8:54 am. A caller reported the window busted out of a vehicle parked there. Police took information for a report and contacted the registered owner of the vehicle.

Out In The Road

• • At 9:33 am, a 12^th Street caller reported a possibly high man walking in the middle of the street. Police said he seemed sober and able to care for himself. They advised him to try the sidewalk.
  • Officers received another report of an apparently high man blocking traffic on 11^th Street at 5:14 pm. They could not locate him.

Cussing Up A Storm

Police responded to a report of someone walking around Washington Street and “cussing up a storm.”  When police caught up with her, she told them she broke a window at Streich Apartments and also that someone used drones to steal from her.

Officers said she appeared to have mental health issues.

Body Found In Shed

Just after 10 am, police received a report of a man inside a shed at a Wayne Avenue apartment who was not breathing.

When officers arrived, they discovered he was dead. Police called for the coroner. The coroner transport took the man to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

Identity Theft

Another case of identity theft. This time a woman called the police at 11:43 am to report someone charged $1000 to her bank card.

Shooting Up At Kroger

Officers received a report of a woman shooting up inside a car at Kroger at 1:11 pm. When police arrived on the scene, they found her asleep in the driver’s seat.

She claimed she had nothing police would be interested in on her and gave permission to search her vehicle. An officer said she frantically searched herself and the immediate area in the car when they asked her to step out.

When the woman opened the door, an officer saw a baggie of what appeared to be crack cocaine. When an officer patted her down, they discovered a glass tube of what appeared to be crack in her sweatshirt pocket.

From the report, it does not appear that she was arrested.

Hey, That’s My Stuff!

• • • • • A High Street caller reported that a neighbor stole groceries from her porch just after 4 pm. Police took information for a report.
        • Officers received a report of two people taking items from the rear of an 11^th Street store at 4:38 pm. It turned out the owner of the store gave permission for them to take the property.
        • A customer at the Family Dollar on Gallia reported someone stole his cell phone just before 9 pm. Police made a report.

      Out Of His Head

      A bizarre incident just before 8 pm on Dale Street. A caller told police there was a man in a red Honda with fake tags. The man was talking out of his head. He told the caller he didn’t know how to start the car and wanted to use the caller’s vehicle.

      The man then got out of the vehicle and tried to jump a fence, damaging the fence in the process.

      Police took the man into custody and arranged for the vehicle to be towed. They also issued a citation for the fake tags. The suspect requested to go to the hospital. An ambulance transported him to SOMC.

      Stranger In My House

      A strange man walked into a Gilbert Avenue home just after 10 pm. The residents said he appeared to be high. Officers took the unwanted guest into custody and transported him to jail.
