The Scioto County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a 31-year-old man after an emergency call brought deputies, firefighters, and an ambulance to Portsmouth’s west side.
The call came in shortly before 9:45 p.m. The man was unresponsive and not breathing, and someone at the scene was performing CPR while help was on the way.
The caller later told dispatchers the man was “gone,” but was instructed to continue CPR.
The primary ambulance squad was already on another call, so a backup ambulance and firefighters were sent to the home.
A doctor pronounced the man dead at 9:59 p.m. Deputies contacted the coroner’s office, and coroner transport arrived later that evening.
The cause of death has not been reported. The sheriff’s log does not identify the man publicly or indicate whether foul play is suspected.
