Courthouse Open House Showcases Christmas Decorations

Scioto County Commissioners were in the holiday spirit at Thursday’s meeting.

They said they don’t want the public to miss out on the historic Scioto County Courthouse’s beautiful holiday decorations, so the courthouse has scheduled after-hours open houses for folks who can’t make it down to Court Street during Monday through Friday business hours.

“The next one is this Friday evening from 5 pm to 9 pm.” said Commissioner Scottie Powell. “The last day will be on Saturday, December 16th, from 12 to 3 pm.”

Powell said many students took advantage of last Saturday afternoon’s open house to take winter formal pictures. “It’s a good time to get that Christmas picture with your family in front of the big tree or at least come in and check out how well the team decorated the rotunda. I’m really proud to share that.”

Commissioner Cathy Coleman said the annual tree lighting last Thursday was a tremendous success. “It was well attended, and the music by the Portsmouth West Choir was magnificent.”

She said that other local schools would be performing in the rotunda throughout the season. “We welcome all of you.”

Getting in the holiday spirit, Commissioner Bryan Davis read a letter to Santa from young Ryan Carver who wanted a medium-sized truck, a drone, and fake food and Commissioner Powell read a letter from Joey Waters who requested ‘all the Legos’ under his tree.
