Portsmouth Police responded to Gallia and Poplar just before 9 am after a car crashed into a power pole. The caller reported a possible entrapment and injury.
When officers arrived at the scene, they contacted AEP about damage to the pole and called for a tow truck to take away the vehicle.
Police issued a citation to the driver for failure to control. AEP said they would be there to take care of the pole in approximately 45 minutes.
Two hours later, an employee of the BP on Gallia told officers a semi hit the wire that connects power to the sign, and it was now lying in the drive.
AEP was already in the area and responded to fix the problem. Electric workers said the truck was not at fault because the line was lower than usual due to a previous crash.
