Dale Leslie Hespel, “The Dawg”, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born September 26, 1947, in Portsmouth, to Arnetta Frances Williams Lewis, who survives.
Dale retired from Laborer’s Local #83 and he was a member of the American Legion Post #471. He attended Gateway Church and was a member of the former band, U Turn. Dale was an avid Portsmouth Trojan fan and was known for selling Split-the-Pot tickets at Trojan games for many years.
On September 11, 1971, Dale married Becky Marie Lemley Hespel in Portsmouth, and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2008.
Surviving is his mother, Arnetta F. Lewis of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Kristin Marshall, and Brittany Pollitt; a great-grandson, Alexavier Isaac Neal; special friend and companion, Linda Hammonds Rogers of Portsmouth and her family; children Kellie Rogers (Brian) Brown of Dayton, David (Vonda) Rogers of Lucasville and Michael Rogers of Portsmouth; Linda’s grandchildren, Hannah, Hayden, Ella, Cheyenne, Savannah, Kyleigh and Josie; and her great-granddaughter, Morgan; three half-brothers, Stephen Hespel of Portsmouth, Richard Hespel of New Boston and Henry Hespel of Senith, MO; his sister-in-law, Lisa Lemley (Steve) Gibson of Fernandina Beach, FL; friends from Post #471, including special buddies Jack and Roger Gillum; and several cousins and their families.
In addition to his wife, Dale was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Ann Hespel Pollitt; his stepfather, Claude Alvin Lewis; and a half-sister, Emma Hespel.
Funeral services with Facebook Live Stream will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastors Shannon and Shane Bowling officiating, and Michael Rogers speaking. The interment will be in Scioto Burial Park.
