David Thoroughman Wins Scioto County Sheriff
The much anticipated Scioto County 2020 election primary has officially closed, and the results have been revealed. Scioto County Daily News reporters Betty Smith and Mark Craycraft were live in the Scioto County Courthouse to announce the results as soon as they were finalized.
With this election closing, the highly contested race for Sheriff came to a close. Regarding the sheriff race between David Thoroughman and John Murphy, Thoroughman won the election by nearly 300 votes (Murphy: 3,693 Thoroughman: 3,982). This means that David Thoroughman is now officially the Sheriff-elect for Scioto County.
Mark was in the board of elections with the sheriff nominees when the final results were announced, and he explained that the tension in the room was palpable, and the look of relief on Thoroughman’s face when he was announced as the winner was thoroughly visible. According to Mark, Murphy maintained his composure despite his loss and even gave Thoroughman a handshake to congratulate him on his victory.
Mark aptly titled this moment as “the handshake heard around the County.”
This was a very fitting time for this announcement to be made, as it coincides with National Police Week. Now that Thoroughman is officially the Sheriff-elect, he will be forming a transition team along with the current Sheriff regime run by Marty Donini in order to make the transfer of power as painless as possible. Thoroughman has made it very clear that as soon as he is sworn into office he plans to hit the ground running implementing his reforms.
