Deputies were called to break up a fight between two men and two women that started at Tractor Supply but ended up in the Kroger parking lot. According to police reports, it was all over late payment for some work and ended with a split lip and two people in jail.
Deputies got a report of a fight at the Proctorville Kroger just before 8 pm. When they arrived, they found Chesapeake Police had already separated two fighting couples.
One man told officers the disagreement actually started at Tractor Supply. He said he’d paid a man $200 of the $300 owed him and said he would pay him the rest later and left.
He said the man and a woman followed him and his wife to Kroger and began to argue with him and his parents. The man tried to hit his father but missed. Then, he picked up a board and went after him. Other witnesses backed up the story that the angry man followed the victim to Kroger.
The suspect’s girlfriend said they’d gone to meet the man and his wife at Tractor Supply to collect payment for a job, but the man had less than half of what he owed them for a job completed two months before. The man told them they could follow him to the bank to withdraw money but instead pulled into the Kroger parking lot where two cars were waiting for them. She said another man went after them with a board and a flashlight.
She also said a woman who arrived in the car called her fat and tried to push her to the ground. The suspect repeated the story that he was supposed to follow the man to the bank and said the alleged victim’s father hit him with a board and busted his lip.
Officers arrested the father for aggravated menacing and assault and the woman who allegedly shoved the girlfriend for assault.
Deputies took photos of the injuries and asked businesses to supply them with any video they had of the incidents.
