Area deputies had a busy evening investigating a suspected kidnapping report at the Quick Stop on State Rt. 93.
The call came in just after 8 pm when a clerk at the gas station said a truck pulled up in the lot, and she heard a man yelling to be let out. She asked the driver what was going on, and he said he had a man locked in the truck.
When she inquired why, the driver said, “He was dumb enough to get in there.” The driver went on to say that he’d offered a ride to a man but didn’t have any other place to put him.
Officers reviewed the camera footage and saw both the driver and their passenger, but didn’t see any sign of a struggle.
They attempted to contact the registered owner of the truck but no one was home, even though the doors were open and unlocked. They observed no evidence of any type of criminal activity. Officers learned the truck owner, who matched the description of the person on the video, had no criminal record.
Deputies determined that it was likely the driver had simply given someone a ride.
