A man called 911 just before 2 am to report that his girlfriend had stabbed him in a West Portsmouth home. He told officers he didn’t need an ambulance. He was more concerned about returning the woman’s lawnmower so she didn’t report it stolen.
When officers spoke with the man, they observed minor injuries to his stomach and hand, which he said were inflicted by his girlfriend. He said he didn’t want to press charges. His main concern was returning the lawnmower and the $200 he claimed he owed.
When officers spoke to the woman, she said the man had mental health issues and had injured himself. Officers felt the injuries were consistent with that scenario. The woman returned the money to the men in front of officers.
Deputies advised both parties on the process of getting a restraining order.
