Portsmouth Police responded to Kroger on Gay Street after the store manager told them there was a homeless man in a long trench coat who wished to speak with an officer.
When officers arrived at the scene, the man told them that he’d recently been released from prison and was upset because the homeless shelter would not accept him since he’s a registered sex offender. Officers advised him of the options for homeless individuals in the city.
Another person called PPD to complain about the homeless shelter just before 2 am. A woman complained employees had refused to give her back her property. The woman was able to get back into the facility.
