Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. James (Jim) E. Furnier, of Stout, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning after a brief stay at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Born July 29th, 1928, in Buena Vista, Ohio, Jim was the son of Walter and Belma (Nee Gilpin) Furnier. Jim retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad as a pipefitter after 42 years. He was a proud U.S Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a longtime member of Friendship United Methodist Church, and a 32nd Degree Mason with the Rome Masonic Temple #535 in Stout.
Jim is survived by his children, Patty Hunter (Glenn) of Greensboro, Georgia, Pam Riepenhoff (Paul) of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Ron Furnier (Melissa) of Cary, North Carolina; his grandchildren; Matt Hunter, Jay Hunter, Tim Hunter, Brooke Coriell, AJ Furnier, Alex Furnier, and two step-grandchildren, Michael Riepenhoff and Tammy Pye. Jim also had 13 great-grandchildren, Tylar Monroe, Heidi Hunter, Katelin Hunter, Grant Hunter, Landon Hunter, Tinleigh Coriell, Dane Coriell, Sadie Furnier, Lily Furnier, Collins Furnier, three step great-grandchildren Taylor Reynolds, Paige Reynolds and Audrey Riepenhoff.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Anna Lee (Nee Hazelbaker) Furnier who passed away on June 8, 2019, his sisters; Jean Perry, Joann Angel, and Martha Furnier, a brother John Furnier, and granddaughter Terra Bowman.
Visitation will be Monday December 9th, 2024, from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm immediately following, all at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662.
Private family graveside service with military honors from American Legion James Dickey Post #23, at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorials be made to SOMC Hospice.
