A West Portsmouth man was seriously injured after a semi vs. car crash on State Rt. 104 early Wednesday morning.
The call came in around 6 am for a collision south of the intersection of Big Bear Creek Road in Morgan Township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 25-year-old David Bender, Jr of West Portsmouth went left of center while driving his car on St. Rt. 104 and crashed into a semi driven by Robert Cyrus of Lucasville.
Bender, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car and seriously injured. An air ambulance transported him to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment.
Mr. Cyrus’ injuries were less serious, and an ambulance transported him to SOMC for treatment.
The incident is still under investigation.
Update
Sadly, on November 16th, 2023, the WV Medical Examiners Office contacted the Portsmouth Dispatch Center and advised Mr. David Bender Jr. had succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.
