It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael T. “Baby Hughie” Staggs Sr., who left this world on May 5, 2025, at the age of 58. Born on December 15, 1966, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Michael was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1986 graduate of Portsmouth West. He cherished his roots deeply.
Michael was preceded in death by his loving mother Patty V. (Nee Besco) Staggs, one brother Eugene Staggs and one sister Evelyn Motes.
He dedicated many years of his life to the body shop industry, serving as a Body Shop Foreman at Staggs Body Shop,here in Portsmouth, where his craftsmanship and attention to detail were widely respected. Known for his strong work ethic, he took pride in his role, consistently going above and beyond to mentor those around him.
Outside of work, Michael found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved cruising in his Ford Ranger, enjoying the sounds of country music, and spending time at the pawn shop. Family cookouts were a highlight in his life, where he created lasting memories with his loved ones, celebrating the bonds that mattered most.
Michael was survived by his loving father, Charles Staggs of Portsmouth, two sons: Michael Jr. (Demi Frazier) Staggs of Portsmouth and Cortland Staggs of Wheelersburg, one grandson, Sterling Staggs of Portsmouth, OH; one brother and sister in law, Charles and Melissa Staggs of Porthsmouth, one sisters Alice Newman of Minford.
A gathering for Michael T. Staggs, Sr. will be held on Wednesday May 7th, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember a beloved father, son, and friend. Burial will follow at Scioto Burial Park in Portsmouth.
