A 30-year-old New Boston mom is in police custody after a 9-month-old baby suffered horrific injuries, and law enforcement said she refused to get the proper treatment for the child. Scioto County Children Service and New Boston Police contacted the Scioto County Special Victim’s Unit on Saturday, asking for help.
They said the child was brought into King’s Daughter’s Medical Center on Friday with multiple injuries. Medical personnel told the mom to take the child straight to Nationwide Hospital in Columbus for treatment. However, the hospital called local law enforcement when they didn’t show up in Columbus after several hours.
Children Services and NBPD removed the baby from the home, and first responders rushed the child to SOMC in an ambulance. The baby child had multiple injuries, including broken bones, a black eye, and other unexplained injuries. The baby was rushed to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and treated by a team of doctors on the child abuse team.
Detectives on the SVU team learned the child had sustained some of the injuries approximately 10 days before and a more recent injury about four days previously. Detectives arrested 30-year-old Kayla Williams of New Boston on seven counts of endangering children and booked her into the Scioto County Jail on a $350,000 bond.
The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091
