Portsmouth Police Arrested a 25-year-old Portsmouth woman on a long list of serious charges after an incident in Wayne Hills on Tuesday.
Medics were called to the apartment regarding an unresponsive infant shortly before 2 pm Portsmouth Police officers were also dispatched to the scene. When medics arrived, it was reported that the mother refused to let anyone inside and began to make threats to harm herself. Once police arrived, they were able to gain entry into the apartment.

EMS pronounced the 3-month-old boy dead at the scene.
Detectives searched the apartment, impounding evidence and interviewing the child’s mother and several witnesses.
The Coroner’s Office took possession of the infant and the child’s body was sent to Montgomery County for forensic investigation.

While Portsmouth Police were conducting their investigation, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department contacted them to say that they had some additional information to aid in their investigation. Soon after, investigators SVU joined the officers at the scene.
Officers charged Kristen Vassar with multiple counts of involuntary manslaughter, endangering children, and possession of drugs.

Friends of Vassar also launched a GoFundMe to pay for the burial expenses of her 3-month-old son.
The court set Vassar’s bond at $180,000.
